Hi all,
I'm in the process of trying to assemble my work system, and I've tried to research power supplies as best I can, but it's been more difficult than I imagined. I'd originally thought to get an Antec Sonata, but after doing some reading it seems that it will not be suitable for my components. Any recommendations would be helpful. Most important factor is that it can handle the components, which I list below, and have a 24-pin connector since that seems a requisite of most nforce4 boards (and the radeon draws all its power from the board i think). That being said, I would like to keep the cost low if at all possible. As far as cases, the purple Evercase GC4292P at Newegg looks very attractive (and inexpensive!) to me. It provides a nice splash of color without looking gaudy.
Components:
* Nforce4 board (deciding between the DFI and the much cheaper Chaintech...I have no intention of using SLI...ever)
* Athlon 64 3500+ Winchester
* 1 GB PC3200 RAM
* Radeon X800 XL
* Audio card
* 1 DVD-ROM, 1 DVD-RW
* 1 SATA HD (WD Raptor), 1 or 2 IDE HD
The system is mostly going to be used for application development, with heavy emphasis on visual studio and photodraw, as well for occasional gaming which the components should handle fairly well as far as I know. I also have no real intention of upgrading the system in the future unless something breaks, so that's not an important consideration. I may experiment with very slight overclocking just for the novelty of it.
Thanks so much!
