Right now I have a Fuji Finepix S5200 and my wife generally takes horrible pictures with it. We have lost a number of great shots because she can't seem to focus it.

I want a PHD (Press Here Dummy) camera for her. The only real requirement is that it be digital. Ideally it should have a high enough pixel count so we can blow the pictures up to a good size if she ever manages to take a good picture.

Please let me know your recommendations.

Thanks.

No matter what camera, teach her to autofocus. I.e., hold down the shutter release halfway until you see the focusing square turn green or what ever is good. Then press the rest of the way and take the picture. It's so simple even a caveman can do it. :)

I agree with corkyg. You can't get around that. Gotta half press, wait for the beep /confirmation, and then go. I'm surprised people can mis focus such small sensors because the DOF is so large (that is why I thought that there was no selectable point points...what is the point when DOF is generally fucking massive?).

How would that fix it? Does it have literally instantaneous AF detection?

Does your wife need bifocals? Serious question. If she can't see the screen, she might not be able to tell if the camera is in focus. Also, what folks said above about waiting for the autofocus.

He wants a wife-friendly fully-automatic camera.

From experience, that tends to be the Canon SD series. The particular model depends on the budget.

They will definitely have better AF than a 3 year old Fuji.

If you can believe it, this is what she struggles with the most. I have tried every which way to explain it to her, but she just deosn't get it.

I figured with Black Friday coming up, now might be a great time to get her a camera for cheaper than normal.

Any suggestions from Black Friday?
