Hey Guys, I have a BIG Problem in Which Graphic Card to get? Here is the List I am looking at. I am ONLY looking at Nvidia Graphic Cards.

GeForce 8800 GTX
GeForce 8800 GTS (640 MB & 320 MB)
GeForce 8600 GTS
GeForce 8600 GT

Just to give you bakcground on the usage of this graphic card. This card is going into my new system that I am building of course. Money will be important when buying a graphic card. I don't plan to spend crazy money on graphic cards.

Me being the main user, I am not a Hardcore Gamer. I play games here and there mostly Need For Speed Titles or if I find something interesting, but again not a hardcore gamer. I will be using VISTA of course. I do Photoshop and the normal computer business. I want to have a REALLY Good Experience with VISTA.

So by looking at what I have said about me, What Card or Cards would you guys Recommend me to buy. Please help me out guys. Thx for all the help!

P.S. Fusion

Erm, anandtech just reviewed the newest generation of dx10 cards. Basicaly, anything below the 8800gts or the 2900xt sucks ass. So, either get a 8800gts 320mb, if you play at resolutions below 1600*1200, otherwise get a 640mb version.

If you don't give a rats ass about directx 10, then for gods sake, buy a x1950xt for 150$, nothing wrong with ATI, and its a LOT better bang for your buck compared to a 8600gt or 8600gts.

8600GTS - saves $$$ and can still sort of play games. You don't seem to game enough to need a 8800 series card. That said, if you use a 24" or 30" display, the 8800 cards make more sense.

Better option than a 8600GTS - older X1950XT.

might as well get an 8800GTS 320MB. that will definitely last you for a while. if you want to spring a for a little bit more, get the 640MB. you cant go wrong either way.

i personally say 320MB if you want to save money...and also cause i have one, hehe.

I am planning to get a 22" Samsung or Dell LCD Display Monitor. Regarding the resolution subject, like I said I am not a hardcore gamer and I even played Need For Speed Most Wanted in 1024x768 Res, bceause my really old LCD only supported 1024x768. So, on the resolution subject, you guys give me your opinion.

Thx for all the help guys!

SLI is bad , 8600 series sucks , 8800gts 320mb memory will be a problem in the future when game uses more than 400MB texture memory , 8800GTS 640mb is great but it starting to lag behind 2900xt in some cases , 8800GTX is the king :)

8600gts. It may be strained a bit at the 16*10 native resolution of your monitor, but still more than enough for a casual gamer. Plus the cheapest one at the Egg is eVGA, so you can step-up later if you discover you want more juice.

The noise, heat, and power consumption of the x1950xt aren't worth the increased DX9 output. (Note: I actually have a x1900xt 512mb, which I'd trade for a 8600gts straight up.)

You serious :)

Lets trade ;) .. I have a Gigabyte 8600gts in a box not used. You can enjoy all the performance wonders and the awesomely sucky vista drivers.

Hey Guys, just to share on what I have now on my system is the GeForce 6600LE that I just ordered for my old system. Before that I had the GeForce FX Series which just blew up last week, So I was stuck with ordering a new but cheap card. I ran Need For Speed Most Wanted on my FX and I was able to play no problem.

I just had a quick question. I have read that Nvidia plans to do a Refresh later this fall on the graphic cards, is this true? And if it is true, what are the Pros of waiting for those graphic cards. Please let me know about this topic.

THX Guys!

What sucky drivers? win vista32 or -64? do you have either an ancient piece of HW or do you play all old games

i found NO "sucky" nvidia drivers interfering with my gaming experience

and vegettoxp, what is your *budget*? and how long do you expect to game with it?

Well like I said, I am not a hardcore gamer and I only play games here and there. I mostly play Need For Speed Titles. And my budget is anything before $300!

Well Guys I looked around and for now my choice is the EVGA e-GeForce GTS 320MB Superclocked Graphic Card. What's Your guys opinion on this card for me?

I guess there is no point of waiting for nvidia's refresh, unless there is gona be a BIG suprise waiting for me.

THX for all the hemp guys.

If you're not much of a gamer, there's no point going for an 8800 series card.

I'd say the perfect thing for you is the HD 2600XT or 8600GT, the nod going to the HD 2600XT for extremely low power consumption. They both suck performance wise, but they're pretty much the same in that category and if you only play a few games, you'll be fine. What resolution do you play it?

The latest game that I have played was Need For Speed Most Wanted and Carbon. I played both games in 1024x768 Res, because my old LCD only supported 1024x768. So I was stuck. Second I am not looking at ATI Cards, only Nvidia. Nothing against ATI, I am just a BIG Nvidia Fan. I have never bought ATI based products.

X1950Pro/XT would be great cards for Need for speed games. X1950Pro even outperforms 7950GT in that game. Buying 8800GTS for a non-hardcore gamer is overkill at low resolutions. ATI Cards > NV for NFS games by far due to them being shader intensive.

he doesn't want nvidia[period]

and if his budget is $300, a GTS will play future NFS games at whatever resolution he likes ... up to 24" LCD or so.
