Hey gurus,
After a lot of research, I have narrowed down my choices to Toshiba tecra M2, Acer Travelmate 804lmi and travelmate 8003lmi. The 8003 appears to be the best with Radeon 9700, 128 mb ram and dvd multidrive followed by 803lmi.Both at around 2300$.The hesitation is that I have not heard abt the 8003 much anywhere plus Acer is not a favored choice of many.I tried contacting their list of resellers (that they mention on their website), but none of them supply acer anymore.I called acer and they still give the names of these resellers.I wonder what kind of product support I should expect.

Regarding tecra m2, i have read that the hard drive is sometimes noisy.the native resolution is very good but not when u change it for getting some larger fonts on the 14'' screen. And does it have PS/2 port or DVI port for ext. digital monitor???

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

my toshiba has been a total pain in the ass...but it's a tablet, so take that for what it's worth.

I've looked and looked for the right laptop and couldn't find one better than the Acer for my needs. The most important thing is that you figure out what you want, and then buy it if they make it.
I wanted 15" screen and centrino with bluetooth and more than 1024x768 because that's too small. The Acer was the only one to offer those things.
It has been super tough to find reviews for Laptops in general, but I've seen this thing before I bought it and that was enough. Acer is a bigger brand in Europe than it is here. Mine runs fine, never had to talk to support. I called Acer once to find out what the deal with the bluetooth option was, but they told me that they don't have the bluetooth module in the US yet. That's the only thing I found to be really bad because I wanted Bluetooth and they don't have it now.
Other than that I love the keyboard, screen and all. Shortly after I got this they released the thousand series laptops (8000 and 6000) that should really kick some butt.

The Toshiba Tecra m2 is not a tablet. the m100 (I think) is a tablet. The tecra m2 is a business laptop at just 5 lbs. I think you should buy it. I had it for a month now and it's been pretty stable sofar. Also as far as I know it comes with a 3 year warranty so you can always fix it.
