hey guys: I'm being offered a CPU PENTIUM III 500 INTEL BOX for $129,95 and yet I there are others like these ones :
CPU PENTIUM III 550 INTEL BOX(100MHZ,512K,SLOT1) $226,8

CPU PENTIUM III 750 INTEL BOX (FCPGA,100 MHZ) $286

What's the trick with the cheapest one?? I can see that it's almost half the price of the other two.

gracias

Hey,

If I were you, I wouldn't get the P3 500 or 550. These are based off the older Katmai core and will give subpar performance my today's standards. The 500MHz one is probably being clearanced out. On the other hand, the 750MHz P3 is based off the newer coppermine core and will give you a hell of a lot of bang for the buck. Just make sure you have a good FCPGA motherboard or slotket.

also look at if you are going to overclock. IF you do decide to o/c, then make sure you get a cBo stepping. You can check the steppings on the intel website or search through the archives. The cA2 stepping is suck.

You can probably get cheaper 700e or 750e in a couple of weeks. Remember that intel lowered its prices and many vendors have yet to reflect the price difference. Wait on it awhile as they will get cheaper and still provide a good bang for the buck. Maybe the new cCo stepping will rock?

Also check out overclockers.com database of overclocked chips. :)

Get a 700E. You can find them for a little over $200. Overclock it to 933mhz and enjoy life. :)
