Hi! I was wondering if anyone would like to give me some job suggestions. I am trying to find a full time job with good benefits and a wage of at least 7.00 per hour (not much I know) I only need this job to pay what little bit of bills I have while i'm getting my certifications and waiting for college to start in November, then I can get a good job through the career center as a tech. I have a few places in mind and would like to know if anyone has worked for these companies and if so what was your experience, wage and what were the best benefits (how much % off employee discount, Good Health insurance, etc) I went to the companies websites but I would like to hear from actual employees or former employees. Here is my list:

Sams Club
Target
Circuit City
Borders
HiFi Buys
Toys R Us

I will not work for/already worked for:

Media Play
Best Buy
Mcdonalds
any fast food place
nothing in a mall

I would appreciate any other suggestions that I haven't listed. Thanks!

Just go in and talk to the manager. You are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. If you don't get a good feel, leave. It is not as important in this type of job where you are so much as whether you enjoy what you are doing and who you are working with. Also, talk to the other employees and try to get a feel for the working environment.

sams will work you like a dog
toy 'r' us do you really want to deal with cranky parents and spoiled kids all day?
Borders - i work for waldenbooks (a borders company) it is a pretty easy job, you can check out books to read, but i doubt you'll get 7.00/hr
circuit city - most people don't like cc b/c their customer service overall sucks (maybe just my hometown store)
target don't know about
hifi don't know

like minendo said whoever offers you a job

Which ever one offers you a job.

I have had too many jobs where I just went with "which ever one offered me a job" and they all turned out to be crap. I am trying to be more selective this time around so I can get a job that doesn't make me sick to think about going to work. Thanks for your input though.

Maybe it is not the jobs that suck, but instead your work ethics and effort.

First off, You don't know anything about me, I came here for help not to be put down. My work ethics and effort is 110% that's why the jobs suck, its no fun putting everything you have into a job only to be taken advantage of, watch others get paid more for the same job, or get promotions because they got on their knees to get up the ladder if you know what I mean, So don't tell me about work ethic and effort.

Its interesting how some people don't see the interview process as a two way street. Our interviews here are over 4 hours long. My boss and his boss sit down with you for about an hour. Then I take them and show them specifically what kind of work they would be doing before taking them to lunch and socialize with them to see their personality and social habits and provide a good atmosphere for them to ask questions about the travel that we do and we make sure to bring up as many bad points about the job that we can. We want these folks to have their eyes wide open before we spend 6 months training them. Most companies are not out to try and hide issues from you but would prefer that you understand completely what the company is about.
Spend some time researching them before you go to the interview and it will be more productive.

For your question: I would interview with at least two of the stores listed but would apply to most of them. You never stated your age. And I'm going to hazard a guess and say that insurance will probably be a non issue since it will actually kick in about the time that you quit (assuming an August start date)

HiFi Buys?!? I used to work for a HiFi Buys in Akron, Ohio years ago. They only had a few stores though. I can't believe they've expanded to Georgia. Could it be the same chain?

Yeah ok "Welcome to the real world" What does it matter how many jobs I have had that have sucked? I am moving forward, I am not here to hear about the real world because i'm already in it, I just wanted advice not a pissing match. I'm not looking for the perfect job, I'm looking for a job with a company that has a better reputation than the ones I have worked for, Best Buy for example just go to www.bestbuysux.org and you will see what I mean. I want to work hard then come home and feel like what I did actually meant something to a customer unlike " Want fries with that" or "Your item qualifies for our product service plan" I could go on but wont. Does anybody understand what I mean?

I got some jobs through Randstad in San Fran for $40/hr a couple years ago. Those days dried up a year and a half ago. Maybe they're back?

HiFi Buys has been in the Atlanta area for quite some time.

Stay away from Sams. They are owned by WalMart and they treat their employees the same which is not good.

I forgot to mention that i'm 20 and will start college in November. Thanks for your advice, I never thought about interviews being a two way street, I just always answered the questions they asked and never really asked any.

Working at Best Buy is only as bad as you make it. I worked there for almost a year before leaving to go away to school. Yeah it sucked having to sell Service plans, but they paid me to do it. I also spent two years working for Wendy's. Not the best job in the world, but it was offered to me and it paid the bills. No matter what company you try to get a job for they are going to have a bad reputation in some way.

Well, this is true. Best Buy was great at first then people left, managers went corrupt, shrink was high, it turned into hell. The discount was awesome, bought a great new washer and dryer :)
