Please help me decide about motherboard (A8N-Premium|A8R-MVP)

Hi,

Right now I have Abit AN8 Ultra, with X2 3800+. I am unhappy with this board as the stability is not there with USB 2.0. I am returning this stuff to my AMEX card.

So I need to decide upon new Mobo and of course memory too. I am stuck with following two boards for my X2 3800+.

1). A8N-Premium
2). A8R-MVP

Which one I should go for? I am very much inclide towards A8N-Premium, unless the 2nd one has very strong point, I am almost decided upon 1st.

My requirements:
1). Stability, don?t want any USB 2.0 issue, which I heard/experienced with other nForce4 boards. Hope A8N Premium doesn?t have that. In my case my system used to hang, when I transfer 3-4 GB file to a USB enclosure Hard drive.
2). Want to do a bit overclockable, want to run my 3800+ X2 at 2.5GHz and 3200PC memory at 240-250mHz.
3). I should be able to do lots of video encoding and a bit gamming too.

Question:
1). Do anybody tried their A8N Premium to transfer big file (3-4gb) via USB 2.0 (Using USB 2.0 enclosure.)
2). Do A8N Premium has any Firewire(1394) problem? I do lots of capturing from my webcam using 1394. Some where in the forum I read that A8N SLI has 1394 problem.
3). Is A8R-MVP answer to my all question? I haven?t read much about this. I in Anandtech review that, it overclocks better and performance is good.
4). Please recommend me the memory (2*1GB PC3200), I don?t want to pay more than $175 for this. However I can consider increasing the limit here, if it is required. Currently I am looking for CORSAIR Twinx2048-3200c2, is it a good choice?
5). A8R-MVP will work fine with nVidea 6600GT? Mobo chipset is ATI and graphics from NForce, so I got the doubt🙂

Here is my current system configuration:
. ABIT AN8 Ultra ( Will be changed)
. AMD 64 3800+ X2
. GeIL Value 1GB (2 x 512MB) DDR 400 (PC 3200) - (Will be changed)
. ABIT RX700PRO-256PCIE Radeon X700PRO 256MB ? (will be changed)
. PS - ENERMAX Noisetaker EG495P-485W
. Thermaltake Tsunami VA3000SWA
. DVD RW ? Khypermedia - KDVRW8X
. XP Professional with SP2
. 200GB Seagate/160GB Seagate/160GB WD
. UC-9FATR2 Card reader

The Premium has been a solid stable MB for me, and I really like the fanless cooling versus the Chipset fan models.

Haven't used USB for transfers, just a gamepad. No problems with it.

Firewire, again I haven't used this as I have no Firewire equipment.

I'd say the RAM you're looking at is an excellent choice, but with 2GB and a high Bus speed, you may need to run looser timings on it. There's another thread on here showing where that may (or may not) be an issue - look at the last page or two of that thread.
It's the "Do's and do not's for the Premium" or something like that.

Your PSU should fine with this MB, I know mine's great 😉
