Please help me compare these two processors

I'm looking at two Dells to buy for my parents. They need a new computer DESPERATELY, but they just use it for Web browsing and simple stuff. There are two Dell deals out there that I'm looking at, and I can't figure out how these two processor options compare to each other.

Comp 1:
Opteron 1220 (2.8 GHz)
Opteron 1216 (2.4 GHz)
Opteron 1214 (2.2 GHz)
Opteron 1212 (2.0 GHz)
Opteron 1210 (1.8 GHz)

Comp 2:
Pentium E2160 (1.8 GHz)
Pentium E2180 (2.0 GHz)
Core 2 Duo E6550 (2.3 GHz)

Could anyone give some objective thoughts on how well they'd both perform, assuming the prices were equal? Remember, I just need the one that will run Firefox best... nothing special.

Also, any links to reviews of these that compare them would be awesome.

get whichever is cheapest, ANY of those would be more than adequate for day-to-day light computing, such as web browsing and email.

I would go with the intell chips. They are better than the AMD chips at this point in time. I do not have anything to put down now other than an opinion. I will follow up with this post with more important things like power consumption, and preformance compairisons. If you run Linux you can get amazing preformance no matter what the chip is. You will also be able to save power because in everyday computing, linux uses less power, and It crashes less. You will not have to reboot as often, this will also save power.

I can't do Linux. It's for my parents. They're in their mid-50s. They can't and won't adopt to a new OS like that.

First, welcome to the forums magnuspuer !

As for the cpu's, the best I could find is that the Intel's will clobber and of those AMD chips.

BUT, as said, any of these will do fine with firefox, so go for price first !

Tomshardware Charts

Here is a comparison chart, although the Opterons aren't included in the camparison chart. Just go with the X2 equivalent; they should perform nearly identically.

I agree that all of the options are enough to surf the web without the computer hanging up anywhere; so going with the cheapest route probably is your best bet.

Yes, as you can see my that (I used X2 3600 and E4300, both 1.8 ghz) the Intels kill the AMD's, but again, they both will be fine, so price is the point !

I second Markfw's welcome.

Please note that it's "performance": "preformance" is just for 133t d00dz.

As others have noted, for light web surfing the performance of either is more than enough - price should be the determining factor. (Although I do recall Intel claiming their P4/Netburst CPUs "improved your internet experience" - whatever that means 😛 ).
