Please help me choose a good laptop hard drive

I dont' follow the hard drive scene, and I'm unsure which brand and model are good.

I'm looking for 60+ GB, 5400RPM (7200 preferable) for under $150. Do you guys have any recommendations among the stock that Newegg carries?

I my self love seagate. you won't find the 60gb 7200rpm drive in ur budget the one on newegg is 199. So go with a larger 5400 drive.

the real world performance difference between a good 5400rpm drive and a 7200rpm drive are minimal, so i'd go with a 60 or 80gb 5400 rpm drive for now. Seagate is a very good brand, they are supposed to run cooler, plus they ahve a 5 year warranty. I personally own a 40gb seagate 5400rpm drive thats in my laptop right now. It's been running great.

Also, do not I repeat do not get a 7200 rpm hdd because those things are so expensive $ 200 for 60gb HELLO @newegg.com and they drop your battery lifetime bigtime. stick with 5400 rpm and here is a linky.

Well the link shows a 1 unit drop in battery lifetime benchmark so I didn't provide false info here, second thing the reviewer stated that the Toshiba 5400rom 16 Mb cache hdd is a better offereing because they are giving you that extra 8mb cache free, opposed to all other manafacturers offerings, so thas why I opted for that drive. and let's not forget the review's conclusion :

In this case, unless you find waiting a few seconds longer extremely annoying, the excessive price markup is not worth the increase in performance.

Clearly the best bang for the buck out there today are the 5400RPM drives. Our drives tested here are all from Hitachi, a leading company in the notebook hard drive arena, but you will find 2.5" drives from Western Digital, Seagate, Toshiba, and others. In fact, Toshiba even offers 5400RPM drives with a whopping 16MB of cache. This helps make up some of the performance deficit without increasing the price too much.

Bigtime makes you think 30 min+. Which isn't true. So if something isn't true then it must be FALSE. If you lose 2 min of batt life cuz u get a 7200 drive and you really worry about that 2 min you have more problems than loosing 2 min of batt life.

You might try zipzoomfly.com. I just purchased a Toshiba hard drive for a HP laptop. A 60G was 86.00. They had an 80G for 100.00. I took the model number from the HP drive and did a search on ziopzoomfly. They also have day free shipping.

Lately zipzoomfly.com has prices similar and most of the time is free shipping. Might be worth a look.
