Hello Everyone,

I am a noob here and I've build a couple of computers before but all i really did was bought a bunch of stuff from fry's electronic and put them together. But, it's time for me to upgrade to the newer one, so please help a noob out here.

So far, I've got the combo from AMD tech show. Hopefully, i can go pick it up this friday at sunnyvale.

Desktop Bundle - Price = $250
? AMD Athlon? 64 3200+ 939 pin processor
? Asus A8N-E Socket 939 motherboard
? Microsoft® Windows® XP x64 Edition

Then I have 320GB SATA HD from monarchcomputer,

Then I have NEC dual layer burner. that's about it.

can you guys please recommend me some parts that i need?

i have ~100$ budget for memory. (1G)

around ~200$ for graphic

around~60$ for PSU ( i will get the case later since i have 10$ case from fry's, i will use that thing for now and upgrade later)

soundcard for around 50$

what else do i need?

help me out here.

Thanks in advance.

corsair vs 2x512: $80
leadtek6600gt : $164
xclio 450w: $50
maybe a sound card
peripherals (monitor,kb,mouse,speakers)

all from newegg. sorry for no links im going to go watch land of the dead soon.

Thanks for the replies. So is x800xl significantly better than 600gt? Sorry i am not up to date with these computer stuff. i have Ti 4400 and FX5600ultra.

1. Get the $80 corsair memory mentioned above.

2. Get the $50 xclio PSU mentioned above. (the manufacturer makes parts for antec PSUs = good stuff)

3. Tack the $30 saved onto the $200 in your video card budget.

4. Pawn something for $20 and get the X800XL. (this IS the best price/performance card out there right now)

Here's some benches from anandtech comparing the x800xl to the 6800GT.

Don't get me wrong, the 6600GT is also an awesome card. I have the XFX 6600GT AGP version and it's an amazing upgrade over my previous card (ATI Radeon 9600 256mb). Now that prices for the x800xl have come down to only $50 over what I paid for my 6600GT, I can't help but recommend it.
