from a Tyan to Gigabyte.. I can't recall if I initially uninstalled Via drivers.
The pci bus master ide controller loaded... .I rebooted ... but when windows loaded, it is now asking for 'viadsk.cat' as primary and secondary IDE controller [dual fifo] drivers. Why is it asking for the via drivers still when the chipset is now Ali?

When i tried to uninstall the via4in1 pack, that it used when it was in the other mobo (again to make sure this is not the cause), it now says registry error please reboot. I rebooted, same message.

in the device manager................

device type: .............................................. manufacturer: ......................................... driver:

ALI M5229 pci bus master ide controller ............... Acer Labs, Inc. ................................ Microsoft 5/11/98

Primary bus IDE controller [dual fifo]................. VIA Technologies Inc.............................. Via Tech.Inc. 10/18/01

Secondary bus IDE controller [dual fifo]..........VIA Technologies Inc .............................. Via Tech.Inc.

I've tried removing all three controllers and rebooting, but it keeps asking for viadsk.cat as driver when windows reboots. So I find it in an old temp file created when I installed VIA4in1 for last computer. I'm using it now, but something is really wrong because everything is so slow.
Any advice is much appreciated!

If you didn't disable the drivers from your old setup, its still looking for everything after you reboot on your new setup. You'll need to pop into safe mode and remove all the old stuff, then reboot and load your new drivers.
