How does the whole insurance thing work do they send me a check to cover the repairs and I pay the garage or do they pay the garage? Long story about the accident( will follow in another post) but just wondering if it's possible to get the front end, etc fixed mechanical but not get the body work done right away , ya know?
I sideswiped a vehicle and hit into a ditch/enbankment. It's not bad really a whole lot body damage the front side behind the lights banged in and scratched up and the bumper is banged up and yada yada wise so ya know. Is it possible to do just what "NEEDS" done?

ANYONE????

Thanks

EDIT update

They cut them a check they said. What up wit dat? How is it that so many people are driving around busted up cars that they never got fixed cause the money went in they pocket? It's an older car and for what the damage is and how much the repairs would prolly cost i'd rather just drive it for a while. With scrapes and bangs like every other beater on the road.

Like none of my neighbors I hope State Farm is there.

Who's fault is it? I presume you have full collision insurance? What did your insurance agent say when you contacted them? They will know the answers to your questions.

Did you report this to the insurance? Was there a police report? There will be a settlement sent to you and it is up to you to get it fixed. (its been awhile, but that is what happened with me).

So the insurance company will like get a quote from the garage and then mail me the check and i'd pay the repairs to the garage with the check?

You will be responsible for paying the shop where you have the repairs done. It is possible to have the insurance company sent the check directly to the shop but you need to decide if that is best for you.

Getting "part" of the damage fixed will depend upon whether or not you have your car financed. (and where you have it financed). If you are financed through GMAC or Nissan Acceptance, I know they require that the car be inspected before your check can be cashed. If you own your car and it isn't financed, it is up to you what "part" of the damage you want to have fixed.

The insurance company is responsible for paying for repairs to make your car "like quality" as it was before the acccident They are responsible to pay you. You will be responsible to pay the repair facility.

Hope this helps.

It's older model truck and yup it's paid for, paid it off in january actually which is why it's still got full coverage, i hadn't changed to just liability yet which i had considered doing. From what a family member member is telling me I need to get them 2 quotes for repairing everything and then they'll cut me a check for the lowest of the 2 quotes minus my deductible. It's then up to me to pay the garage for the repairs be it just the needed mechanical repairs and or the body repairs also.

Sound right?

THANKS FOR YALLS HELP
