Please Help!! Is there a way I could check how fast my dvd/cd drive is running?

I bought the 12X Creative DVD drive from Newegg.com.

I noticed that the drive is very slow. When I open up "my computer" icon and there is a disk in the drive it takes a good 10 to 15 seconds sometimes for the "my computer" box pops up to show what is on the disk.

Also the real kicker is the Adaptec CD copier software tells me that I could not create a CD to CD copy at 8X because my CD ROM is not fast enough. I must copy to harddrive first. If I change it to 4X then it allows me to do CD to CD copying.

Anyone ever come across this?

My DVD is primary slave and HD is primary master. Burner is secondary master.

Please Help.

I've had problems doing CD-to-CD on the same channel at high speeds. Put the drives on different IDE busses and all was well. If you have Nero, it has a CD speed test but I'm sure there are dozens others and I'm sure we'll hear about shortly!

Bozo1 I had to put DVD and HD on same IDE to get around a buffer underrun issue on the Philips. So if I switch it back then more coasters.

Well got a lot of researching and testing to do.
