Do you see a speed difference writing an image to high speed vs say 4x cf card on consumer level digicam..like an Canon S30??

Neal,

I guess you didnt find any info on that site I gave ya. Anyhow, just from my limited experience with my Minolta DiMage 7, I really cannot tell a difference between an Ultra card or a regular ole card. Write speed really depends (for me anyhow) on how large the picture is. Anything over 1600X1200 takes awhile to load into mem. Say if I load a 2400+ sized picture it takes close to 20 sec or RAW is even more slower, doesnt matter which card try it on

I went to the dpreview site ..very nice review on the CF media..problem is if you read their forums it appears some camera are faster than the Nikon and other camera was Pro quality not in my budget....some people have reported their HS cards are noticably faster yet the review seems to imply the consumer level digicam write at low speeds..like 4x...the other thing is the actual Nikon Coolpix review seem to show a HS card allowed faster writing time and faster access to the card for the next set of pics.....

so it was confusing...

I wanted to see if poeple here at AT are finding any real difference...I will pay extra for HS card if it allows faster writing....

Yor link in my other thread was very helpful but I need more info...to get a sense as to whether these HS cards are more a speed gimick for the consumer level digicam...I have an Canon S30

InsaneMorphius what digicam do you have???

I have the Minolta DiMage 7.

Its a 5 MegaPixel cam, takes great pix, but is complicated at first to figure out.

Yes, there is a difference, but only if you're going to be exhausting the built-in buffer. Most cameras can take about 4-5 pictures in a row before CF write speed becomes a factor.

It makes a significant difference when downloading via Firewire though. (I have a Firewire CF reader.) It's irrelevant on USB because the speed is already slow.
