Please help! I think my video card died.

Well, I turned my computer on today in the morning and it wouldn't boot. (or maybe it was trying to boot but I just couldn't see it because there was no video signal)

What happened is, it would turn on, then it would shut off about 5-10 sec later, then turn on again, then shut off... All this happened by itself, and it just kept happening again and again.

I switched off my psu, then turned it on again. Turned my PC on, and this time, it wouldnt keep shutting off every 10 sec. It would stay on but still no video signal!

I opened my case, and noticed that the fan on the cpu is spinning just fine, but the fan on the video card was dead. Not spinning at all. The fan would jerk slightly every 10 sec or so, then became completely motionless.

I turned my PC off again, and when I pressed the "on" button, the video card fan came alive and spun very slowly for about 5sec, then slowly stopped. I again powered off and on again, and again, the fan came alive for 5sec, then slowly died. This keeps happening every time.

I took the card out and inspected it, but I cant see any burned transistors or anything like that.
I tried using another video card connector on my PSU, but that just returns same results.

Unfortunately I don't have any spare parts that I can test my PC with, and I dont know anyone who can lend me a spare video card. Am I SoA?

Is there any way I can make sure that it is indeed my video card that's the problem and not my PSU or mobo without trying to boot with another video card?

My card is made by eVGA, so I don't think there will be any problems getting a replacement from them?

as long as you registered your card within 30 days of buying it there wont be any issues with rma'ing it (make sure you still have the original receipt).

Looks like it's not just the video card that died... I was able to obtain a GeForce 7300 PCI-E. This one's fan spins just fine, but there's still no video signal.

What should I check next? The mobo? How could it have possibly died? There was no burning smell, no pop, nothing! Yesterday my PC worked just fine, but today it's suddenly dead...

Check all your connections - motherboard, ide, sata, power ect. Are you overclocking? You can try resetting the BIOS.

Yes, the cpu was overclocked, but I never had high temps, and I was always monitoring them.

I took out the battery to reset the CMOS, but that didn't help. I'm going to now try to take out the ram and try one stick at a time.

Not the heat problem I was thinking of but the stability of the memory. Have you test memory with memtest?

I tested with memtest when the system still worked. There were no errors. My system was never overheating as far as I know. I constantly measured the temps, and sometimes posted them here on AT to make sure they are within safe limits.

My CPU was sitting under a good, big cooler and I used AS5 when I installed it.

I inspected my mobo under a magnifying glass, and noticed what looks like a small charred spot around the solder close to where it says "TPM"(whatever that means).

It doesn't feel like my PC is even booting when I switch it on. There is no sound of the HD working or anything like that. Only fans spin. The only thing I can do now is get a new mobo, cpu, ram, and hd, and then see which one of my parts went kaput...

Looks like from your inspection you motherboard was shorted would definitely be the first thing I replaced.
