kinda sounds like one of the First worm virus in this new wave of viruses. Gives you a message on startup with a countdown to when it will shutdown your computer. Microsoft's site has tools for this as well as other sites. Forgot the name of it, but do a search, you'll find it.

Please try be a little more descriptive on your error messages in the future. It makes troubleshooting that much easier. If you don't have antivirus software installed on your computer, I'd recommend you install some ASAP. If you have Win XP enable the firewall feature on your NIC, use Zone Alarm, or purchase an external "router".

Trend Micro Online Virus Scan

Go here for the Blaster removal tool.

Do not download & execute email attachments unless you scan the for viruses first.

That's the Blaster worm. Go get your Windows Updates NOW. If it comes up again as you're trying to download them, then type the following into the Start -> Run box. shutdown -a and press OK. That will cancel the shutdown so you've got time to get the updates.

I have a CD with SP1 and all these Microsoft hotfixes on, and they get installed before a newly built/reinstalled PC even gets a slight look at a network cable!

Ditto, although mine reside on a slave HDD. I ALWAYS unplug my network cable after a reformat and it doesn't get plugged back in until I'm all patched up!
