Please help. I can't burn 8X on up with my 12X CDRW

I have a 12X AOpen ( CDW1232 ) but I can't burn CD with 8X on up. I am using Nero 5.0 that came with the drive. The CDRW is setup as master on the secondary controller. It would fail both CD to CDRW and HDD to CDRW. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Look for firmware. My boss had a similar problem with another type of burner and we updated firmware an voila!

is DMA enabled on your drives?
what burning software are you using?
a little more info on your system may help us tremendously with your problem! 🙂

are u using any version of the VIA Busmaster drivers?

w/ winME and 2k, sometimes they detect the drive as SCSI, which Nero recognizes but fails to burn...
u can either change drivers, or easier and better, download the update to nero 5.5 for free whcih works properly w/ ide drives detected as scsi in winme and 2k with particular via busmaster drivers.

Burners have firmware too.. just like alot of SCSI and video cards.. depends on the peripheral, but there's often more firmware in a system then just the BIOS.

"Hausdave, are you talking about the motherboard BIOS when you said firmware? "

No he means the drive Firmware. It's almost the samething as your MotherBoard's BIOS but it's on the drive's controller board. It's just a FlashROM, that can be updated.

I've had enough of the burners now to know they can be very finikey. Some burners don't like certain brand CDR disks. Sometimes you have to burn a certain way. Audio Cds can be a real pain. Sometimes they like the original CD, not a copy as the source.
You can try a different brand media.
In general I would stay away from second tier burners...
From what I gather and from experience stick with Plextor, TDK, Teac, Sony, HP, Sanyo...
Stay away from Creative, Samsung, AOpen and most of the other cheaper Taiwan CDRW\comapnies.
Rebadged stuff like Liteon, Iomega and Cendyne is hit or miss.
Maybe it's a rebadged Plextor or Teac.
