Ok, I haven't put together my own PC in about 4 years, and I don't remember it being this difficult.

I've reformatted twice since yesterday. I am using Windows XP Pro. An ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe board, 2 x Seagate 7200 500 GIG SATA hdd's, 4 gigs of Ram with an AMD Athlon 64 bit 3 gig CPU.

Long story short:

First format/OS install, everything worked fine once I installed mobo drivers. Connected to the internet, everything booted up and it ran quick. The only issue: Windows was not seeing my second hdd. It showed in the BIOS but not the disc manager or "My Computer" (please note: I've never used nor am I familiar with SATA hdds). I thought it may be a master/slave issue, so I moved the jumpers. It still didn't show. Finally I moved the sata cable to another sata spot on my mobo and (for some reason) it showed.

I updated to SP 3 and decided to put the rest of the motherboard utilities on my system.

It then started showing my SATA drives as removable media (which I don't want) and the onboard wireless adaptor keeps telling me it isn't connected (how do I disable that?!?! :() It also tells me a network cable is disconnected (it isn't and the cable works fine, I tested it). I check my network devices and it is listing 4 different network devices. 2 of them say connected, 2 are "not connected". I disabled the not connected ones thinking it would use the connected ones. Nope. :(

I formatted it and reinstalled everything (MAN it takes a long time to format 500 gigs) and now my second HDD has disappeared again (not in the disc manager but still in BIOS). It shows a floppy drive I don't have, the wireless thing is still going crazy and I still have no connection to the internet.

I am in over my head and my wife is going to kill me if I have to take this in somewhere and pay someone to work on it after all the money I've already spent on it. :(

Please help!

I've been ignoring additional LAN ports for years now without any repercussions, so I don't see why it's such a big deal. I have had several MBs sporting more than one RJ45, and never had occasion to use but one at a time (there is usually a place in setup to enable/disable a redundant port, of course). I've just acquired that same model Asus MB, and anticipate no particular difficulty getting it running and connected to the 'net.

My advice is to just read your MB's manual, and go slowly, not forcing things (or trying to do so) to suit any preconceived notions.
