I have reach my wits end with this problem. Here is my system.
Case Antec Overture II
Mother Board Asus K8N4-E Deluxe
CPU AMD Sempron 64 3000+
RAM Kingston Value Ram PC3200
Video Card GIGABYTE GV-NX66T128D 6600GT
Hard Drive Western Digital WD2500JS
Optical Drive asus E616P3-QT Silver
OS Windows XP Roll Up 2 MCE 2005 w/remote
Keyboard/Mouse Systemax
I built this a couple of weeks ago and was running fine up until Friday, no hardware has changed. I started experiencing high cpu usage, according to task manager, 40-60% however no applications were running and the processes showed 99% system idle. I tried several driver updates and roll backs but nothing helped. I went so far as to reinstall the OS and original drivers I built the system with, however no change to the high CPU usage. I have also compared safe mode and debug mode, msconfig. In safe mode the CPU usage at idle is 0-2% but in debug mode it is 40-60%. My current thought is that it must be something failed on the motherboard but has hoping for some help before I started throwing parts at it. I have search the web but most of these problems are fixed by driver updates and as I said I have even started from scratch with a fresh build, latest drivers and all windows updates.
