well i'm posting this for a friend...will make it as short as possible..sorry if i'm posting in the wrong forum, but it's urgent
-he bought 40 gig maxtor drive
-installed and worked perfectly for around a week
-2 projects due tomorrow...tried to boot up today but saying invalid system disk
-booted w/ floppy and checked the hard disk...no files and saying it's only 6 gigs
-ran fdisk and displayed partition info...shows roughly 40 gig
-the bios for hard disk is set on auto, and i believe is recognized as 40
-ran chkdsk, reports 6 gigs...scandisk has no errors...
-jumpers and cable are set correctly
-tried booting with another drive as primary master and the 40gig as primary slave...reports 6gigs and nothing on drive.
possible virus?
any suggestions? anyone?
