Please help... First build!

I just put together my first build it yourself system.

Everything is working well, but I can't seem to get the internet set up. I have comcast cable that I am using on my old system now.

The Mobo is a Gigabyte N650-SLI-DS4 and everything seems good. The USB works, the DVD/CD drive works, I installed Windows XP Pro... Just can't seem to get the internet.

I hooked up the ethernet cable and tried to make a new network connection but no go. I went into the bios and did the "SMART LAN" thing and it read correctly.

When I tried to install the Comcast software it didn't recognize the Ethernet port, but I think I remember that being a problem on my current system too so I am discounting that for now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am so close to this being a success and just a little bit off...

Thanks!

OK, here is an interesting thing. I had an old PCI Ethernet board laying around so I stuck it in there. Now I am writing this on the new computer.

Am I able to say for sure now that the onboard LAN is bad? Is it worth ripping everything out of there and RMA the motherboard?

Didn't think the hard part would be setting up the software, but it seems to be.

You just need to find the right LAN driver for your motherboard. 😉

And you don't have to install any Comcast software(in fact, I would suggest you NOT install it) unless you want to. I have Comcast and I don't use their software.

OK... That sounds like a plan. Where might one look for the right LAN driver? I guess I could start with that CD that gigabyte sent with the motherboard?

Thank you!

Start by looking here for that LAN driver.

And if none of those work you might try Googling "Marvell 88E1116 phy driver" and see what you can find.

Good luck. 🙂

P.S. Man, I wish I had one of those DS4 SLI boards *drool*

lolol, yes installing the right software for your onboard lan might do the trick ! And yes it should be on the cd that went with your mobo, it was for mine, and all other mobo's I've bought so far.

Update...

I installed the drivers that came on the CD from Gigabyte that came with the motherboard.

Whaaaaa laaaaaaa....

Now it's working. Imagine that!

Thank you all for your help and suggestions!
