Alright, Its time to upgrade my system and I need to make sure my video card would be appropriate for a monitor upgrade coming a few weeks later.

The setup I have put together so far includes the following:

Athlon 3200+
Abit KN8 SLI
Saphire X850 XT

I might add another gig of ram.

Now, here is my other later UPGRADE.... im considering picking up the Dell 2405. Ive read sooo many articles and posts here and they have all be very helpful. Here is (are) my question (s)

1. I have read so much about the monitor being such a resource hog at just its native resolution at todays games. How will this upgrade im doing handle it?

2. Also, the debate about how much money you need to pour into this monitor in order to kep up with the demand of games and such. Is it really that extreme? Cant you just scale the resolution down a bit and wouldnt it still look amazing? Now ive never owned an LCD before and I have other questions about the monitor itself but they can wait until I get closer to buying it and a seperate thread...

Honestly, Ive read posts from people that say their X800's do them fine with this monitor, while others swear buy the high end X1xxx line's but not cards like the X1600 because I heard the X850XT is a far superior.

Unless I can find a better deal I was planning on sticking with the X850XT (Saphire from newegg) however, I dont want to have to scale this monitor down, stretch to fill or have black bars (not exactly sure how it works yet) but seriously, is having to upgrade every new cycle an over statement? Now again, I dont have the monitor, Im stuck with a 19" dell that ive had for 6 years so im only going by what ive read...but what will I be ok with that set for a while? Any other recommendations?

Thanks 🙂

Thanks

what about the video card, will the x850xt do the job at native on a monitor like that for a while? Or Should I look for a used (will have to be used due to my budget) used 1800 card for example?

By the looks of the components you selected, I am assuming that you are on a tight budget; For $160-175 the x850 is a good buy with acceptable levels of performance, I would even say that is has one of the best price to perfromance ratios of all the video cards for sale.

Here is good deal on 2gb of RAM.
$145 (rebate) 2GB of Corsair XMS

go for it. i don't know if the x850xt will run games at 1920x1200 at more then 15fps, but it is a beautiful monitor.

Thats kind of what I need to know, but yes, I agree with you that its a a great looking monitor. It will be the purchase after the upgrade listed above. I wonder how much the extra gig on ram will help with the vid card/monitor situation or if having the x850 is a lost cause to begin with..
