"Plenum" cable can be routed through air circulation spaces, and is flame resistant.
"Bang for the buck"? Just get a 1000' spool of Cat5e from Home Depot @ about $70. 😉

What's better for CAT5e (phone and/or net data): solid for stranded...

Also...

Same question for CAT5e (data): solid or stranded?

solid vs stranded has nothing to do one being better than the other for data or phone.

Solid is used for "permanent" wiring between patch panels, keystones, etc

stranded is used for when you will be moving the wire on occasion, it is used for patch cords.

technically, solid core is better, but you cant repeatedly bend it or it will break and you probably wont know it broke until it is shorted open. stranded is made so you can repeatedly flex it and it wont break (ok, it can, but that takes bending darn near close to abuse to do it). but as long as both are rated to a standard, they will be equally good data-wise for use up to that standard.

If you are doing permanent wiring, you should go with solid and you should consider cat 6 to be more future-proof

does that answer your question?

Thanks much... That makes perfect sense although begs the question why anyone would want solid if its rated to the same standard but "weaker"...
