Machine Specs:

Gigabyte 7zx
thunderbird 1GHZ
256MB syncmax ram stick on bank 1
no name TNT2 M64 pro
creative pc-dvd inlay
supra pci modem
realteck network card
etc etc

problem:

i locks up at the start of windows, eithetr a video lock up,
or it automatically reboots.

i ruled out the video card and most components.. since i took them out, and changed the video card, and it happened.

what can it be?

coudl this be a heat issue?

the average cpu temp is 53*C

is that too high?

memory?

Are you 100% sure that the heatsink is flush against the processor and that there is no tiny gap between the two?

I'm wondering if it could be that you have a 256MB DIMM, I think I saw somewhere that certain Athlon boards had problems with a single 256MB stick. Don't quote me on this though, I could be wrong.

yes, the machine books and when it does it has no problems... except twice, when it rebooted when i was in the device manager ..

it's running win98 btw...

am able to even play games on it, it's just that every 1 of 4 bopot ups fail...

odd no?

i am using thermal paste also...

this was supposed to be an athlon heat sink, but th efan does seem a bit too weak... as the heat sink is noticeable hot to the touch ( not in any way unbearavle, just more hot than i've seen )

what kind of powersupply?
it has to be a 300 W amd approved or atleast a good 300W Powersupply

Other than that I cant think of anything else. The heat is a little too much I run Retail Heat sink and with full load it runs about 47*C.. did you use a thermal paste? The heat issue cant be it.. make sure your power supply is good.

enlight 7237, as far as i know, has no issues...

and when it does get into windows.... it's fine,

could it be a power supply issue?

i mean, it not only reboots, but sometimes looks up ( at the same plac e where it reboots )
