Recently I purchased an OEM Abit IS7-E motherboard and I think it may be busted. It won't post. Here's what I tried so far to eliminate other possibilities:
tried 2 working CPUs (tested in another P4 machine so I know it's not the proc) - one is a p4 2.4c 800fsb, another is a celeron 2.4 400fsb
tried 2 different video cards (tested in other systems so I know they work) - one is AGP Radeon 7200, one is PCI S3 Trio 4mb
tried 2 different 350watt PSUs (tested in other systems so I know they work) - a Zalman 350watt and another generic 350watt
I know the RAM works because I just pulled out a stick from my main system and used that.
I thought maybe something wasn't grounded so I installed the motherboard in a case (before it was just sitting on my desk). No go.
So, here's what happens. Everything is plugged in and the motherboard receives power (it's not running, but it has power so one of the LEDs near the connection headers is lit green). When I hit the power switch, another LED below that one turns on and is lit red. Both the north bridge and CPU fans spin up. The system doesn't beep (it did when I didn't have any ram in there ... so I think the board may kind of work).
So why doesn't it post (i.e. nothing shows up on the screen)??? Maybe there's some jumper I'm unaware of? Looked but couldn't find any suspicious ones. I also reset the CMOS a few times (and even took out/replaced the BIOS battery). No dice.
By the way, here's a picture of the two lights I mentioned earlier. It would really suck if this board is dead.
