Please Help, CPU overheating

Hi,

My computer is now up and running, but there seems to be one problem: the temperature of the CPU becomes very hot under heavy load. I'm running a P3V4X motherboard, with a PIII 700MHz (not overclocked) on an IWill slocket using a Golden Orb to cool it. The idle temperature of the case is about 35 degrees Celsius. However, after I played a game, the temp hit 70 degrees Celsius, and took forever to cool down!

FYI, i'm using the golden orb with artic silver compound. I'm really concerned about this, and would like some suggestions. You guys think I should get a new heatsink/fan combo? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

P.S., the readings are accurate because I checked with motherboard monitor and the system bios. Also, the case and air circulation are fine (mobo temp is always under 25 degrees C).

That is hot. I don't think the orb is doing it for you. But before you go out and buy another heatsink/fan set, look into having more ventilation in your case. WHat kind of fans to do you in the case? I would have a 120mm fan in the front bottom and perhaps one or 2 92mm fans on the back, below the power supply. If you are into modding your case, have a 120mm fan blowing air in on the side will help the vid card. If that is too much work, go out and get a GlobalWin Vos32 or an Alpha.

that is really strange, can you verifiy that the golden orb's fan is running properly?
That could be the problem.

What's so special about the Golden Orb? Everybody seems to be talking about it, and that it's so great.

Descend - the orb is cheap and very effective, it just isn't top of the line cooling (Alpha or Globalwin). x general - that is REALLY hot - especially for not overclocked...make sure that the correct (and not too much) amount of voltage is going to the CPU. also make sure your golden orb is installed correctly.

either your cooler isn't working properly or you're using a peltier cooler upside down or you've got a defect temp. sensor

Are you sure those readings are accurate? I remember the P3V4X had problems with temperature readings...and I would assume Motherboard Monitor just gets its info from the BIOS, so it would be effected too if the BIOS had a monitoring problem. Have you tried flashing to the newest BIOS version?

Why not try putting your finger on the heatsink, and then starting a game or something CPU intensive, and then see if the heatsink starts to heat up. If your CPU temp really is doubling from 35C to 70C, you should be able to feel a difference with your finger.
