I've never done this before and could sure use some guidance.

I have been asked to set-up a wireless, video surveillance system for a non-profit organization, which operates a Bingo game fundraiser once a week in a school gymnasium. It must be portable, in that it must be put up and taken down every week.

The system needs to connect to the schools WiFi network without using a network cable.

I'm thinking I need a wireless router that the video cameras connect to and also to the schools WIFI network. The school's network is a secured WIFI network that I have access to, but the access must be without cat5 or cat6 cable connection.

I have the wireless cameras, D-link DCS-942L's and a D-Link DIR-615 router. How do I configure the DIR-615 router to connect to the schools WIFI network without the use of a network cable? Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. TIA

It depends on the school system.

In general they have to connect you, or give you the credential to connect the Internet through their system.

Or you can bring a laptop connect to it and the camera to to your own Router. Then you can follow and or record the Camera's output on the laptop without involving the school system.

JackMDS thanks for the quick response.

This sounds like the right way to go, but I'm not sure how I would config the router to be able to connect to it without using the schools WIFI. Can my DIR-615 be configured so it can be used "Stand-alone" without the internet. Can you provide some instructions on how to do this?

Thanks so much for your help.

You configure it the as normal connection between a Wireless Router, the Wireless (or wired) laptop, and the IP Camera. These configuration can be done on the LAN side through the Laptop browser and it does not need a Internet connection on the WAN (Internet) side.

Contrary to the "Drama" by D-link that wants you to go online so that they can capture your email, id, and marketing desirable Data, the D-link DCS-942L's can be connected to the Router viewed, configured and record with a Browser locally, using it LAN IP as the address in the Browser.

The manuals of the Router and the Camera will help you in the configuration if you never did it before, you can downland them from the support sites of the Hardware if you do not have them.

How about connecting the surveillance camera wirelessly to the school system without passing through your router?
