Please help....Computer is randomly rebooting

I am running a dual boot win2k pro and winxp pro. I have an abit ka7 - 100 mobo with ibm hard drives. Sometimes it will boot just fine, or sometimes it will get to the "verifying dmi pool" or something like that and then reboot even before i get to the dual boot screen. Sometimes it will boot all the way to windows xp log in screen and then reboot. I NEED TO GET THIS FIXED ASAP. ummm you can look at mmy rig to see any additional info you may need.

Could it be the power supply? HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELPP THanks

My parents computer did this...I thought it was the Power supply initially, replaced that...no luck. So I pulled it all apart & turned out that a few capacitors in the 3-phase power supply on the mobo had melted down.

wait...you said Abit KA7-100? That's exactly the mobo they had. Check for black "ooze" around the capacitors right behind the CPU.

Something that might be the issue is that nobody has mentioned is that win2000 (and possibly XP, I'm not sure) removed the BSOD and instead whenever one would occur it would reboot. This could be coupled with the ram failure, causeing it to reboot whenever you get a VxD error, or you might have a flakey registery.

I dual boot with 98SE and WinXP pro. I had the same problem going into Win98SE. I swapped VC's for
awhile and that seem to correct the rebooting. My PSU runs real low on the 5v rail. Sometimes below
4.6 I think that in combination with my Gainsward GF3 Ti200 and EP-8K7A+ makes for Maximum unstability.
