Please help, Computer constantly crashing

I recently moved and ... I am getting the Crappy Blue screen of death about 3 times a day now...I have An ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe MB, AMD 3500+ CPU(W/ Zalman cooler), Dual LEADTEK Extreme 6600GT video cards (No difference with stability with only one card), Patriot 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Chan. I also Have 5 HD's 2 SATA (250gb and 300GB) and the 160gb, 120 gb and 80gb(with the OS on it) I am also using an Antec 430w true PS...adn am using a well vented case with 5 case fans......I am at wits end ...I am not OC'ing ....I re-installed windows XP-Pro Sp2...and it crashed whether I am using my comp .. or it is just on and not being used...everything seems to be secure and not shifted ...I individually unplugged each of the HD's accept the OS drive...Any Ideas would be great ..thnaks

did you make sure everything else fits in snuggly when you were taking out the hard drives...have you run memtest and check temps on everest/speedfan... feel free to invest in periods rather than ellipsis...

I ran memtest for a while with no errors....I checked all of the tems and they seem to be ok ..Bet 29C and 40C 40C being MY GPU.....I will try Prime95 next ... could it possibly be a PSU problem ...(not enough power)..???

The Antec 430s do not have a good History. Google antec 430 caps.

If you have a spare PSU, temporarily hook it up and see what you get.

For symtoms of caps going bad, do a little reading at badcaps.net or motherboardrepair.com.

EDIT: If you do have a back-up PSU and that solves the problem, open-up the 430 and inspect it.
Do not open it up if it's still under warrenty, iirc, the warrenty period is three years.

If you have never opened-up a PSU, just use a little care as some componets can hold a
chrage for awhile.

I ran Prime95 and it came up with an error immediately on the first attempt ...so I ran it again and it ran for an hour and the same error happened ... My CPU temp never went above 44C...I got a Fatal Error Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4..Hardware error detected ...Does this narrow anything down because it doesn't do anything for me ... 🙂

Ok Im almost ready to give up.....Is there a program or a way that will tell me why my system is constantly crashing ...I am not OC'ing my settings are stock and my Temps seem fine.. my system is bare .... I really don't know which direction to go now

Your power source could be the crux of your headaches. If its a recent version, there's your problem. The newer Antecs seem to have developed leaky capacitors. Don't wait, try a newer PSU.

If you have a friendly computer shop available in your area, you can have them checkout your PSU, or pickup up a Seasonic S12

Hope this helps.

Also, dual 6600GT's suck a lot of juice, even if the PSU isn't faulty. Watch your voltage rails for awhile with a prog. or in BIOS and see if they fluctuate radically(>5%)

Not while I was running Prime95 the voltages seemed pretty stable ...and this is an older Antec PS .. def over a year old...I guess this is as good a place to start as any....Its just weird how it just started (nothing added or changed) and it crashes with only one GPU also... I actually think I do have another PS I will try that tonight ...thanks guys...

Ok I think we got it ...I switched out the PSU and the comp seems to be running alot smoother ...It may be a little early to tell, I have only been running prime95 for about 45 min but its running alot faster on top of not crashing... Its not a great PSU ..I believe its an Ultra-X 500W ...So I'll just run the one Video card and pick up a new PSU...Its weird ..Ireally didn't see any power spikes with the Antec while running Prime95 but something obviously wasn't right...is the Seasonic S12 worth the $125..if so ..I'll just grab one of those ....Thanks again for all of your help...this is why I love this place...

Just a quick follup quiestion ....My computer has been running alot better with the Ultra-X 500w POS PSU ...instead of crashing 5 times a day it has only crashed 2 times in 2 days and it seems to be running faster also ....Im just waiting for the new PSU to come in ..I ordered the Antec TruePower 2.0 TP2-550 EPS12V ATX12V 550W Power from the deal in the hot deals forum... so basically my question is since it is only crashing less and not completely fixed ... I was assuming and hoping and praying that the reason for the 2 crashes in the last 2 days is that the Ultra-X is just a POS PSU and the New PSU should take care of it .... Huh ..?? maybe ...does this look like this was a PSU problem all along ... huh guys ... 🙂

thanks for all of your help...

Please read this.

http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/07/11/stress_test/page10.html

Why in the world would those techs be rushed to Munich?? CYA, that's why.

I would not buy an Antec PSU this year, maybe next year but not now.

Read the whole stress test. Good=Fortron.....Better=Seasonic

Yes, the Seasonic is worth $125. I use Fortron for good cheap and Zippy/Emacs for I don't
care what it cost. The HP-2 series is for servers but the HG-2 series is for stand alone at
home PCs. Zippy and PCP&C are the Sumos of the PSU world, they accept load with a grin.
