I just got a new Dell 4100 for the kids today and wanted to hook up Linksys Fast Ethernet 10/100 Network in a Box (From Hot Deals forum!) to connect them together and share my roadrunner connection.
The Dell has WinME and my computer has Win98SE. I've gotten the computers to see each other and transfer files, print through, but can't seem to figure out how to get the new computer to connect to the roadrunner on my computer.
It seems like I'm almost there but looking at the Windows help file, it talks about having two cards in my computer, one for the roadrunner coming in and the other for the connection to the Dell. I thought the Hub was where I connected the RR and the 2 computer jacks.
I tried the Lanbridge software and it's working on my computer but the Dell won't access it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Road Runner seems to be generous when it comes to dishing out IPs (at least it is around here)
Connect the RR line to the Uplink port on your hub, or if it's a crossover cable to any port. Jack the 2 Nics into regular ports on the hub.

Make sure both computers have TCP/IP installed and set for Automatic all the way.

Now use Start -> Run -> winipcfg.exe to monitor if they both get a DHCP packet from roadrunner. If the ME(puke!) box shows up at 192.168.... it is NOT getting the DHCP signal, try hitting renew

In your machine, Roadrunner needs a tcp/ip binding, and the LAN needs a tcp/ip binding. It is possible to put two tcp/ip bindings on one NIC, but doing it can sometimes get rather tricky, and the conventional way of doing it is to use two NICs, one for the cable connection and the other for the LAN (which can also get tricky, depending on what PCI slots are available for the second NIC). Once the hardware is in place, ICS or other sharing software is used to share the internet connection. ICS directions are at http://www.infinisource.com/techfiles/ics.html . The simplest way to add a second NIC would be to use a USB NIC, which connects to a USB port on your computer, and use it for the cable connection. You'll also find hardware and configuration help at http://www.homepclan.com/ and at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/J_Helmig/ .

As Norssak says, your present configuration will work if Roadrunner is generous enough to give the kids' computer a second IP address. But plan on eventually sharing one connection, as that generosity can end at any time.

Your current configuration only works if RR gives you an IP for each of your PCs... Since you have 2 PCs trying to use RR, check if you got 2 IPs with your service... If you do, do what Norssak said... If not, you will have to share that 1 IP, and one way of doing this is follow what obenton said (using NAT software)... Or you can purchase a router, but that will be more expensive...

Thanks for the info. I wanted to try adding the Linksys card to the 3Com card already present(on RR) but the computer keeps locking up in the adding new hardware section. I can get the computer to load if the new card isn't installed, but won't let me get it in and configure it using ICS.
I haven't tried calling RR yet for a new IP since it's Christmas day. Maybe that'll be what I need to do.

So far, I have:

RR---->>Hub (uplink slot)
slot 1---------->P-800
slot 2---------->P-866
And I can map/share/print files, but won't let me use the RR from the P-866.

Thanks again.
