Please help, Cd writer probs

I have just got of my brother a Wearnes CDRW-622 which can write at an unbelievable 2 speed

Anyway I have installed it and the Bios has detected it fine and windows XP see's it ok.

The problem is that as soon as I stick a blank CD in the drive everything halts to a crawl and sometimes crashes, i.e. Nero, device manager and so on.

I've just put the latest Atapi's on there and now I'm out of ideas.

Anyone got any ideas as to why it could be doing this??

I know the drive works a)My brother used it fine and B) I've used it before on my old pc also running Windows Xp but a different motherboard and CPU.

can we get full specs of the system? is it a via based chipset? if so have you installed the latest xp approved 4 in 1's?

Thanks but it looks like I've sorted it.

I had Daemon tools running on my system once I disabled That it ran fine.
