Thanks in advance for any help!

I am connecting a fairly new 16x Yamaha external burner to a brand new ibm thinkpad through ultra SCSI using an Adaptec SlimSCSI 1480A. I know the drive works and the card works (I can get a JAZ drive to work on the same computer), but the computer will not recognize the CDRW drive at all. The card shows up correctly without any errors and I updated the adaptec drivers but still no luck. Yamaha tech support just said send the drive to us if it doesn't work....

I'm running Win 2000 pro.

Any ideas or advice?

THANKS!

Does the drive power up at all? I'm assuming this is the only scsi device connected, right?
I'm not familiar with that card, or a laptop with a scsi-card, but during bootup does the scsi card detect devices before windows loads up?
Does that Yamaha have a 2nd connector you can try...from the ones I've seen, there are 2 connectors on the back.....have you tried each one?
Nort sure what else to say......could just be a bad drive.

THANKS Trashman!

Yes, the drive powers up and last time I connected it (a couple months ago) it worked fine. I tried both connectors on the drive and also tried changing the SCSI ID.
I'm not sure how to verify if the scsi card detects the drive before windows starts up, how do you check that?

I'll try the card and drive on a friend's laptop and see if that works...

Change the SCSI ID number - sounds like you have the same one for two devices.
