No offense, but does anyone here know how to do any research? I don't mind helping out with specific items, but you're asking for everything. Why don't you just pay someone to pick it out and build it for you?

BDawg -- If you have a problem with someone getting some advice then don't post a reply. :|
I can do research and have done plenty, but I guess I am asking for personal opinions related to experience.
Isn't that what forums are for?

The same topic is discussed almost everyday. People are always having discussions on what motherboard to buy, which GF is the best, etc. Instead of participating and reading all of those discussions, it appears that you just want the answers. Don't you have an opinion? Don't you read any reviews?

If you're wanting to throw out :| faces, how about this. Get off your lazy butt and at least start. We'll be happy to critique. Don't rely on others for everything.

Perhaps I'm a bit prejudiced, but having 17 posts and a nickname like Yomama21 doesn't motivate me either.

If it is a gaming rig then go with AMD and save some money on the memory and CPU. Use the money saved to get a better video card. That will be more important than the CPU. Otherwise, forget about hi-resolution gaming or FSAA. The Athlon XP2000+ is priced very well at the moment. The GeForce4 Ti4200 is an excellent video card for an excellent price. Get a Ti4400 for a little more performance. If you really want to go all out, wait for the Radeon 9700 to come out and grab that. A KT333 motherboard is probably your best bet. 256MB of memory is good, but I find 512MB does come in handy on occasion, though not often. Those are the core components of the system that I recommend.

its obvious hes a new member, so he probably doesnt know to go searching through all the threads compiling a list of the best hardware. he was asking for people to recommend a list of parts for a particular budget, which many people (myself included) would be happy to do. so theres no need to go b!tching at him, especially since hes new.

Since we're trying to be nice now, I'll point out that this exact topic has been done before by the forum's parent site. Since very few people seem to know about it, the forums do not exist on their own. They are a side feature of Anandtech.com who conveniently enough does ***drum roll*** hardware reviews.

I understand this is a bit dated, but last Friday, they did a value gaming rig breakdown. Yes, it's under $1400, but it's a great place to start for methodology.

wfbberzerker, I'm curious as to why you suggested the A7V266-E instead of the newer (and only $3 more expensive) A7V333. In fact, the much cheaper MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU would be about as good and he could put the $35 or so he'd save towards getting an NEC FE991SB 19" monitor using the Diamondtron NF tube instead of the inferior Samsugn 955DF "flat"screen (its actually a curved CRT with a piece of flat glass in front).

im a little hazy on exactly what motherboard and monitor to buy, since those components are the ones that i havent kept track of. (heck, the only good recommendation for a motherboard i can really make is the epox 8k7a) so, i just went with brand names people trusted.

Like I said before, if you have a problem with someone asking these questions why don't you simply ignore it and let other helpful people express their opinions. In response to your comments and questions I have read plenty of posts, but I don't have the time to do all of the required research. If I was building a system for someone I didn't know I would choose what I thought was best with my own knowledge. Since this system is for a friend, I want to make sure I get the best for the money. As far as having an opinion, I think since you have 3600 + posts you are the one who needs to get off of your lazy butt and get a job.

:D
