All current components are at least 5 years old. Goal is to upgrade ~ 1 month from now.

I want both wired and wireless speeds. Basically the fastest I can get without being completely ridiculous on price.

Looking to spend no more than $300. I'd think that's well within the realm of possibility.

I generally try to select a product where the price (Y-Axis) "starts" to climb a steep slope relative to the performance (X-axis) to capture that last 5% in performance. But, if the best only costs 10% on price then I'd probably just opt for that.

Comcast Cable is my ISP; there's nothing else in my area to choose from.

Assumption is my speeds will be limited by My ISP. Right now I have 12 down / 2 up.

I'm thinking of paying another $10/month for 20 down / 4 up

Current System:

Modem: Comcast standard issue Arris Model TM602G/CT

8 port switch works with 12 port Router to supply 11 hard drops throughout my house.

Switch: SMC Easy Switch 10/100 Model: SMCF58

Router: Buffalo Air Station G Model: WHR-HP-G54

Rather than splitting your network between two devices when it comes to wired I say put all of the wired traffic on one switch such as this one Trendnet TEG-S16DG and a solid wireless router. I've pretty much given up on Cisco especially after they came up with the "brilliant" idea of managing your router in the cloud. I've found that D-Link has been making some pretty solid routers so I would probably recommend the D-Link DIR-655.

To upgrade Wireless you need to get a Dual Band Wireless Router and replace Wireless client cards with Dual Band Wireless card.

To upgrade wire connection you need a Giga capable Wire card in the Network's wired devices and they have to be connected to a Giga capable switch.

A Good Dual Band Wireless Router can be found for about $100. 8 port Giga switch can be found for about $40.

The Wireless and the wire Giga can work in mix environment of the old client devices that you have now, and new fast hardware (with old there will be No gain in "Speed").

The problem is the client Wireless. Some might not be upgradable, or might not need Dual Band, or and Giga wire cards.

Since you did not posted any thing about the clients, wire, or wireless, it it hard to know what is involved in the client side.
