hello

i am having a few problems with my new a8v and 3500+ with corsair 512 x 2 twinxl pro RAM. i was hoping a few of you techies could help me.

the system is new so i am running everything stock - no OC or anything. when the machine boots, it's fast! however i have a problem. any time i turn the machine off, it forgets that the VIA sata controller is even there.

this means that when i boot, i get "hardware initiate failed" and no windows, because my system is on the 160GB sata drive.

then i have to reboot, go into the BIOS (v1006), set the main drive to be the one on the VIA sata controller (which has windows installed), set THAT drive to be the 2nd boot device (since the order of that also goes away when it forgets the drive is there), then continue to boot.

This happens every time I turn the computer off. all other BIOS settings are being retained - so i don't think it is a battery issue. this isn't a huge problem, but it is MAJORLY annoying.

does anyone else have this problem or know what I can do to fix it?

thanks
jeff

Have you tried other bios versions?

I'm currently using the 1005.021 Beta and it recognizes my WD Raptor as the boot drive.

thank you. i have however, found out that this problem is strictly a result of the VIA sata controller on this board being screwed up. i have tested the machine with two PATA drive and no SATA and have had flawless operation for almost 2 weeks. i'm hoping they will permamnently fix it soon with a BIOS update, but as of now 1006.004 does not help.

Interesting, it seems you and I have very similar setups. My board was a very early release board but so far I have had no problems. I am using a RAID 0 SATA setup, utilizing the on board controlled and disabling the Promise controller. Not sure if you had disabled the Promise one or not, or even if this helps. Also I assume you have updated the chipset drivers, etc.
