now heres my problem
what cable/cables do i need to be able to hook up my computer to the tv and get the sound to come from the Sound system
currently i have just the VGA-VGA via the tv and computer but the sound wont come out of the HTS
i consider a VERY techie guy
but when it comes to sound....im a freaking noob lol
sound is my achillies heel lol
i was thinking use a DVI to HDMI cable but not sure if sound will go through it?

DVI doesn't carry sound so that won't work.

You'll need to run a 3.5mm --> RCA stereo cable into the sound bar. Or you could get an HDMI capable video card which will then pass sound to the sound bar

DVI to HDMI can carry sound, it just usually doesnt. The adapter has to be just right. If you're a hardcore gamer geek you might have a handful of DVI to HDMI adapters, and you might get one that works. Otherwise you need to use optical. I wouldnt mess with rca. You dont spend $400 to use headphone cables.

Get a video card with HDMI support and hook it up to your sound bar.

The only thing optical buys you in this csae is better noise rejection. No need for multichannel signals when you only have a sound bar.

i'd just pick up a spidf cable and call it good. You can pick em up for under 5 bucks so its a cheap and easy solution...though does add one more cable to the mix.

Thank you for all the suggestions:

On the video card with HDMI idea...im waiting for the next GPU refreshes so thats until sometime next year....

What would i need for this:
DVI--HDMI to the TV
and for sound what else would i need?

Optical
so this would be Optical to the TV what other cable would i need?
Optical from TV to the Sound bar right?
