Ok guys, I admit it... i'm a total MOBO newbie!
Currently I'm using a celeron on a no name mobo.... I'm planning to switch to a better socket A mobo... could you guys tell me what brand is good and what model number? and chipsets?

For instant, i keep seeing the KT133V or whatever thingie? what in the world is that?
Any information would be appreciated! Everyone say something!

EDITED: thanks.. I want a socket A mobo, not a socket 7 lol.

Ok, I think you want a socket A mobo, with a KT133A chipset. Asus(A7V133) and Iwill(KK266) makes the best mobos, they are stable and very overclockable mobos. Also the Abit, Epox, FIC, SOYO, are good mobos.
What I suggest you to do is read articles, get mobos info, visit Asus, Abit, Iwill, FIC web sites. To know the mobos, and understand more about mobos.
That will help you a lot to purchase ur new system.

Good luck! Hope it helps you!

Thanks for answering and correcting me!
What about other chipsets? is the KT133A the only one around?
I would like one that works good for overclocking... but how about other chipsets?

Com'on I want to hear some stories ;)

Why don't you give some more information so that others can help. What speed CPU? What is your budget? What parts do you plan on moving from your existing system to the new one? Do you plan to over clock your CPU? All this and anything else, like what form factor you case is, will help. Take your time and give them something to work with and I am sure you will get some good suggestions. Good Luck!

OK, that sounds good.

I have a ATX case.. and i'm planning to move everything but my current mobo and CPU...

I'm thinking of putting a Duron 750MHz - 850MHz (not sure yet) and overclock it(how? please tell me.)

as for budget... maybe a total of $150 max, but of course the less the better.

Well, the KT133A is the best chipset now for SDR RAM memory. But you must know that this chipset combined with the Creative Live! serie sound card has a big problem, so get away from this combination. Theres the KT133 chipset too, but it doesnt support 133 Mhz FSB. So you get stuck with 100 Mhz FSB.
And there are DDR RAM memory. For this memory you got ALi(but its bad), VIA KT266, and the AMD, chipsets. The AMD is the best, but the most expensive too.
People been getting the Epox, for DDR RAM. Very good mobo, I dont know if the Abit KG7 is now available too.
But do what Buz2b said, and we will help you build a nice system.

Good luck!

You could use the Video card, sound card, the HDDs, NIC, Zip drive, DVD, CD-RW, and modem too, but its very hard to find mobos with ISA slots now. Changing to PCI modem would be very nice.
You just gonna need new memory, DDR or PC133, mobo socket A, processor, case(with PS-350W), cooler, intake and outtake fans.
If you want some good brands for those things let me know.

Good luck!
