Disclaimer: I know jackall about phones, maybe less than that. No, make that definitely less than that. I send and receive maybe 10-20 mobile calls a month. I don't need data and could even do without texts. I just do a lot of driving in the Tri-State area between Northern New Jersey, Westchester, NYC and western Connecticut and once in a while need to make a call to push something off if traffic is bad as often happens up here. I was using a P.O.S. Pantech model P2030 and was overpaying for my plan snce I use it so little. But I inherited it from my recently deceased father and just kept paying it because I didn't want to learn anything about phones. The phone went through the washing machine and died, so I need to start anew with a phone and a cheaper network plan. And I don't even know when to begin. I saw a deal on slickdeals for a Tracphone plan that was a sim card, a years service on ATT or T-Mobile with 1200minutes, 1200 text and 3gb data for a year for $39.99. Not focusing on the limitations of the plan because even that little is far more than I need, that's the price I'm looking for for a years service and would even be happy paying less than that for a plan that includes half as much.
But I don't know what phone to buy to use it on. Going through Amazon the descriptions might as well be written in Klingon. Carrier locked and restrictions on unlocking and time limits on subscribing to different plans, porting without getting reamed, I don't understand or care about any of it. Could some kind soul that understands this stuff instinctively please quickly peruse the Tracphone plan and point out a cheap no-frills phone from Amazon that will work with it right out of the box without having to jump through whatever hoops other phones use to make you use a different carrier or plan? . Imagine you're getting a phone for your 80 year old grandmother just to make a few calls once in a while and no more bells and whistles than that. Easy to use and more importantly, easy to get up and running. Thank you, I will be eternally grateful.
