Please Help 9600 gt or 8800 gt(512)

For some reason I cannot find a detailed versus review on the 9600 gt 512 and the 8800gt 512. I sold my 8800 gts about 9 months ago and have been out of the tech and gaming loop since then, so I would greatly appreciate anyones help and input!

I am looking to get back into gaming mostly CoD4 which I know both cards will kill, but which one is best? Will be put in a XP machine with 2GB RAM and an e6420 OC'd

With your current videocard and your 17" monitor, I would say wait for a real upgrade, not a small step up to a 8800gt. Btw, the 9600gt has the same performance as your 8800gts G80. Your G80 may even do better in some due to more ram, but I can't say for certain.

I seem to remember that the 9600gt actually WON in low res cod4 (didnt just tie like it does in most games) in many of the review benches I saw. So if that's your game and you're playing under 1920+ res, I'd go with the 9600gt. If you do get an 8800gt Get upgraded cooling. Stock is oh so very horribly bad. @ 1920x and up 8800gt is noticably the better card in most games though, but it's still fairly close in most cases.
