I have a geforce 4 ti 4200 running on windows xp home edition. I recently did a format and then reinstalled the latest video drivers and directx 9.0c

However, when i run DX diagnostics, although the computer passes the directdraw test, it fails the direct3d test at step 8(creating a 3d image), it fails all 3 direct3d tests.

I just got a new videogame ive been waiting for for over a year(rome total war) and I can't play it until this problem is solved, uggh. Someone please help.

I have tried reinstalling the drivers and direct x.

Yes, I have the latest drivers installed as well as direct x.

dxdiag says everything is working fine except the direct3d test fails.

Ill have to get back to you about the motherboard because im not on ym computer. however, if it worked fine before, why would the motherboard be the problem now? surely it must be a software/driver issue, not a hardware issue, since after formatting, i didn't change anything about the makeup of the computer.

He meant the motherboard drivers. Odds are you didn't reinstall them after you formatted (or Windows installed the out-of-date ones that shipped with WinXP) and that can screw up some AGP video cards.

ive never even downloaded the latest drivers for my motherboard or ever consciously installed drivers for it. thanks for the tip, ill look into that.
