Please Help! 1900XTX may be toast...

Guys, I'm ready to throw my entire computer away. I don't know what the hell happened to it.

I have my computer hooked to a 37" LCD where I could run games at 1920 x 1080 resolution. It's worked fine for a long time.

Then yesterday, while trying to get into Runescape, I had to lower my resolution to 800 x 600 in order to accommodate that game's display. When I was done, I have since been unable to get my resolution past 1280x1024. I don't know WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED!!! I've restarted the computer. I've deleted and re-installed the drivers for the 1900XTX. I've tried eveyrthing I can think of, and my computer simply will not recognize that my monitor displays at 1920x1080. It's been at that resolution for months until yesterday when I lowered it to 800x600.

To make things worse.... my 3dMark05 score has dropped from the 11680 it usually runs to about 4000. on a 1900XTX!!! Yesterday, Oblivion ran at 50 FPS upon loading my game up outside the city walls. Today, loading from the same spot, it was only 13 FPS.

What's going on?? What happened to my card? All I did was change the resolution! This card has been at stock speeds (no overclocks) for several months, and the temps are at appropriate levels.

uninstall and reinstall chipset drivers? the drop in performance seems almost like running the card in pci mode... i'm not even sure pcie does that as a fallback (agp will)

Well, I didn't yet reinstall the chipset drivers (admittedly I'm not sure which ones they are...) but I did go into the bios and used the "load optimized defaults" option to restore the original settings. Thinking perhaps I had messed something up in there during my initial troubleshoooting of this nonsense.

That got my frames back to almost as high as before... Didn't run 3dMark but Oblivion is back to 40-50 outdoors with max settings. instead of 13. But I STILL can't get my computer to increase beyond 1280 x 1024. And now, for some reason, Serious Sam 2 runs with black bars on top and bottom, when the resolution in-game is set to 1280x1024. (and my TV is already a widescreen!) What kind of sense is this?? The game display looks like a stick of gum, proportionally. It spans my screen 35 inches side to side but only runs about 10 inches top to bottom. I don't know what whacked out my resolution so badly.

Could it be the monitor?

Do you have a spare monitor you could hook up with the same reso?

Agreed. Try swapping parts around if you've got them. Somtimes that's the best way to troubleshoot hardware.

lol do you have another 37" LCD laying around. Whoever asked that cracks me up.

He might have a friend with one, and it doesn't need to be 37" to have the same resolution.

Your lack of ability to comprehend sentences cracks me up.

That's pretty normal, with the updated patches of that game. If you had read the doc file, they had added the "odd 1280x1024" resolution into the game. I have the bars too when I hit the same resolution.

Best thing is if you can get a CRT and test it at other resolutions. Also, what's the make and model of the 37" LCD along with tech specs.
