Here is my situation...

I decided to upgrade to an XP1700 on a SOYO DRAGON plus board. Well, no matter what I did I could not seem to get the board to work when I would install my SB Live X Gamer. The OS would freeze (Win98SE) and I would be stuck.

So, after a week of returning the board, returning the CPU, blahblahblah, I finally decided that the board would just now work with my setup (Radeon 8500, 740 mb pc2100, XP1700, Dx 8.1).

So, I go buy an ASUS AN266-E. I get it to go to the BIOS, and it would lock up after about 3-5 minutes. Every time.

So, I think...well, the only thing that is not replaced is the actual case/PS (previous was a generic case with a 400W PS). So, last night I go get an Antec case with a 350 watt supply, two extra case fans, etc.

Go to start the computer last night, and lo and behold it will run for all of 30 seconds now and turns itself off. I am sure that the answer is right in front of me, but I am honestly so sick and tired of this whole damned 1 hr job taking 2 weeks of my life that I am hoping someone will recognize the facts behind this and pitch in some advice...

BTW...yeah, the CPU fan is hooked up and it is new. replaced the processor and memory once already to be sure they would not be the culprit.

I know someone has to get a smile hearing about my misery....:|:Q:p:cool::frown::cool:

I know you said you the HS/F is attached correctly...but this sounds so much like a heat issue....have you tried a different HS/F??? Just my .02

If I take out half my memory I will be really screwed, according to my wife. ;)

Sorry, could not resist that one.

I am thinking heat issue also, but I have tried both a chrome orb fan and antec fan...I am going to take another look when I get home..

you said you used a chrome orb fan and antec fan. I'm not sure what you mean. Did you put the whole heatsink and fan on or just the fan????

I'm with stockjock WTH are you using as a heatsink/fan on that XP? if your using 1 then
Are you using thermal paste or a thermal pad(make sure the plastic tab has been removed) along with the heatsink/fan and CPU, if so, have you made certain that the HS/F is oriented/installed correctly? Also try just 1 stick of ram for now. Are you using a UPS or surge protector? Have you tried monitoring the temps in the bios? Try booting with just the vid card and ram (nothing else hooked up) and immediately go to the bios and monitor the temps.
