I would recommend the Shuttle AN35N for your mobo. I paid $63 shipped for mine from Googlegear. It runs and O/C's great and has the nf2 Ultra 400 chipset!

I agree with the above, a combo like such will suit you well. however if you dont have a frys nearby or something, dont get a duron, get a amd 1700+, its only like 40 bucks on newegg or so i believe and it works wonderfully. (great o/c'er too) if you can get that frys type combo tho, i would go with that instead.

Easy just get all this stuff from newegg:

ECS L7S7A2 SiS 746 motherboard (its performance is similiar to Nforce 2 and has multiplyer unlock/pci/agp lock)-$53
CPU- Athlon XP 1700 tbred B - $42
Cooling - Glacial tech igloo copper breez $11 (great for some mild overclocking)
512mB PC2700 all components $68
Radeon 9200SE- $52
Codgen Midtower w/350w PSU-$29
total = $255

Just pop-in the cpu and run it at xp2800 speeds, the case is only $5 to ship and has a decent PSU. Generic PC2700 should be fine for running 166MHZ bus speeds.

Here are my recommendations, all prices from NewEgg:

EDIT: nevermind, the last guy came up with a 10x better setup than mine!

It's a little higher than you specified, but you'd be hard pressed to get all the components you need for much cheaper. If you really need to stick to that $270 limit, consider picking up components in the For Sale/Trade forum here (except for the case, of course). Good luck!

Guys, the man is from Canada so he doesn't have access to newegg or frys. He's lucky if he has access to a Futureshop.

I would seriously think about getting your parts yourself though. Try ncix.com or tigerdirect.ca for good prices on new parts and you can have a decent machine.
At least check to see what is blown on your machine first. You might be surprised. When my psu died, everything was fine except a floppy, which I don't think
died from the psu. Good luck.

case = ok

cpu= no f***** way get a duron they are poo... get an athlon 1700+ I live in canada too and where i come from they're like $5 more or something DONT get a duron

ram: get pc 2700 so u have room if u ever upgrade yur cpu (2100 won't work with 400 fsb)

mobo: get a cheap via kt400 like an asus a7v8x-x or a msi kt4 vl or a gigabyte ga7-va they only about $80 canadian but perform 10x as well

( has integrated sound and lan... from what i hear the sound is ok)

video card: get a non-ati brand radeon (u save $15 just from not using the ati name and the quality is just as good) I recommend the sapphire or powercolor brand get a 7500 and up or u can go with the NVIDIA geforce 4 mx440 using evga or some other non big name for about $60 where I live

Where do u live pm me maybe I can build it for u and i would do it for fun... not even charging those labor prices

If you have to get it from your local pc shop, you are going to get screwed on the price.

Good luck :(

sound good all?

A REAL BUMMER: my plextor cdrw 8x4x32 drive was destroyed when my PSU blew, so now I need to get a used CDRW drive for CHEAP (pm if u have one-internal drive)
