Do you think that this set up would be a good value?

Am I spending money wisely on decent gaming rig?

I highly doubt that I will do much overclocking. I am upgrading from an AMD 1.0 with a geForce 2Ti. So this will certainly be an improvement, but I was just wanting your thoughts on this set up. Thanks for your input.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3000BPBOX

GIGABYTE GA-K8N Ultra-9 Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard

Leadtek PX6800GT TDH Geforce 6800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

OCZ Performance Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)

FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX450-PN ATX12V 450W Power Supply

I plan on using my existing IDE hard drives.

epox 9npa ultra is superior to that board in many ways and is cheaper. it costs around $95

whatever you do, do not get the 6800GT. either get a $230-260 Radeon X800XL or a $380 7800GT. in many games, the cheaper and cooler X800XL is faster than the 6800GT. and a 7800GT is not much more expensive than a 6800GT and is definately worth the extra money if you go that route. the other components are very good

just get the X800XL and save some money

thanks for the suggestions.

Do you think that the OCZ ram which has a CAS of 2 (and a cost of $110) is a better value than getting some kingston which has a CAS of 3 (for $88). I didn't know if I would see much of a performance boost with spending the extra 20 bux on the ram with a CAS Latency score that is 1 full point lower.

It all depends on which benchmark you look at. Seriously, I read on gaming, lower timings DO help. And if it's only 10% or whatever, it's still 10%. Every % here and there adds up.
Make sure the RAM you're looking at is also CAS2 on AMD platforms.
Of course, I wanted to save money, so I got (2x512 MB) Corsair Value Select with CAS 2.5.

Thanks for the heads up. I checked out the OCZ on their website and found out that it is 2.5 on AMD systems not 2 as advertised. I was unaware that they could be rated differently on AMD systems.

OK based on the recommendations I'm going with the epox mobo, some corsair ram with cas 2.5, x800 XL, A64 3000+ venice, and the forton PSU. Anyone else have any comments on this setup?
