Hey, my car just completely died. It's been a long time coming and I knew this was going to happen, but kept putting off any research and because of that have any idea what I want to get.

Please help give me some ideas of a car within this range. 20-35k, new or used, all wheel drive, nice interior, will last a long time.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. For what it's worth, my last and now dead car is a '95 Subaru Impreza.

Thanks!

Update:
Hey, here is an update and thanks for all those who gave me advice. I ended up getting the regular Legacy instead of the GT. I guess I just didn't feel I needed anything extra, pretty boring but that's how I am.

Yay :D

I had to drive my old car to the dealership using the parking brake.

Oh and I saw some really cool deals on the 9-2x saab, I liked the way it looked, unfortunately all the deals were in Mass and I just didn't feel like I driving around to check it out. I wish I had started shopping around sooner.

Thanks again!

If you want AWD then subaru is about as good as it gets unless oyu want a suv.

With that said get the Saab 9-2x. Subura drivetrain with Saabs great looks.

A 2001-3 Audi A6 4.2L will easily make you forget the as good as it gets subaru. Find one with a clean history and it will be just as reliable as any subaru, plus a nicer exterior/interior, V8 and it rocks.

Thanks for the suggestions, I've got a few cars to look at now!

How do used Mercedes AWD vehicles match up against Saab / Subaru?

I wouldnt get an audi. I am in the market of buying my first car, and was looking at alot of audi a6's etc. Apperently from reading numerous consumer reports etc, there is something like 172,000 audi units affected by major electrical problems from 1999 up. Not only that but I have heard so many horror stories of electrical problems with audi/vw's from people that it has convinced me not to get either of those cars. Go with a subura/mercedes/bmw/lexus. Saab I don't know much about that, wasnt that company bought out by GM?

As a general rule of thumb, you should stay away from anything German if you require reliability.

I agree about the Audi/VW part.

And Saab was bought out by GM, that was a good thing. I have a 96 900SE Saab. The 9-2X saab is just a subaru with Saabs nice interior/outside and Sub's drivetrain.
That and you can get a lot of rebates/low %rates/etc... on the 9-2X that you can;t get on the same Subaru.
