Please help me make sure i'm not leaving anything out.

OK, we will make about 2000 a month together, and thats after taxes.

apt 605
utilities????? 125??? not sure on that one
@home 50
cable 30???? (basic cable, not sure on price)
phone 30????
food 300??? just us 2, dont know how much we will spend
gas 120 gas guzzler
cat insurance 100
total 1360

so it looks like we'll be fine, but am i forgetting anything????? Some of the prices i'm not too sure about. Also, any advice or tips would be veeeeery welcome. Thanks in advance.

You should be able to do it, I could do it on my income if I wanted to (other people here making less than I do have apartments by themselves), & I take home $400 less a month than the two of you do.

be prepared to put down deposits if your credit isn't established as well. places like electricty, apartment, phone etc..

Your girl is going to want to furnish the place from hell, so have some money to do that..

the girl part is the tuffest, they want want want all this stuff for their new homes :)

all the basic stuff, like food for the fridge, cooking utensils, pots pans, trash devices, shower stuff (curtain!) tp, junk like that. Don't forget cable modem!! telephones.

Remember the phone company chargers an ass for installation, ask them to bill you over 3 months or your first month will be like $150 bill.

If your unit is gas , don't forget the gas company.

Btw, CALL all the places a couple of weeks ahead of time, there is a lag of up to 2 weeks on some items. Have your gas/elec/phone all scheduled to be on before the first day you move in or on exactly the first morning..

don't forget to schedule for a moving van, they are usually all booked up around the beginning of the month. That will require a credit card deposit or $100 cash deposit to get one..

I got room here so if your gf wants to live here I don't mind but there are some rules. It will save you some money.

One question have you ever thought about leaving Iowa? j/k :)
Well looking at those figures you 2 should be doing fine. The only hidden expense you might have is transportation i.e. car trouble and the like.Try to stick money into a savings to have a backup for a *rainy* day.I never realised that rent is that high over there but it must me in a real nice part of town.Good Luck to you guys and hopefully you'll take care of your g/f instead of neffing here ;)

Thanks Johnny. Yes, they are really nice apartments, but not ridiculously expensive like some others here. And yes, I know, Iowa does suck, I've wanted to move away since I was a kid.

They have:

fireplaces
vaulted ceilings
1 1/2 bathroom

uhm..thats all i can think of. But it has a fireplace!!

car insurance? Both you and your gf are living together, progressive would consider you "Primary with an Other" on one policy saving much money!!!

Insurance rates are based upon your credit rating and your driving record and the location (crime rate) and type of vehicles. If you have two cars, you get a multi-car discount. Also AAA usually gets you 5%-10% off your policy, AAA is like $60/year . think about that one..

Rental insurance, state farm or allstate quoted me $30/month for all my cool gear. Our apartment has active alarm hooked to the police station, that gave us a little discount. I have a ton of stuff so i had to raise the rates a good bit. Definite good idea to have.

I'm in Atlanta too Emulex! Just bought a house though, outside the perimeter. Our renters insurance was $120 for the whole year with $25,000 replacement value coverage. I would definitely recommend you get the renters insurace and make sure the policy is for REPLACEMENT value.
For example that computer you bought last year for $2000 is now actually worth about $500. Well they'll give you more than the $500 to replace it.

Infidelity means a lack of faith

No, actually it means. Unfaithfulness to a sexual partner, especially a spouse.

Lets see. 968 sq ft. 2bdrm 1 1/2 bath w/ fireplace. If that was in a prime Manhattan location, it would probably run about $4500 a month, give or take a few hundred $. Crazy huh?
