I'm building a rig to take with me to college next year, but there's still a few things that I'm debating with myself on. Here's what I've got so far:

CPU: 3.0 GHz Pentium 4
Mobo: Whatever 875P turns out to be good
Case: Antec PP1080AMG, Antec LANBOY, Lian-Li PC-65, CoolerMaster AT201, Kingwin KT436 (I can't decide :/)
RAM: Kingston 2x512 PC3200 DDR
Video: ATI AIWonder Pro 9700
Sound: Audigy 2
HD: WD1200JB (120 Gig, 8MB cache)
Optical Drives: DVD, CD-RW, both by Lite-On
Display: NEC 1760NX LCD
Speakers: Logitech Z-680

I'm kinda partial to Intel processors, since I've been using them most of my life, but I might consider holding off and getting an Athlon64 if the performance looks right. Let me know if any red lights go off in your head looking at these parts or if you have a suggestion, especially when it comes to case, CPU, and HD.

Are you trying to have a home theater at college? Your overdoing this...why u need a ATI AIW 9700? I've been using a 2000+ at school and believe me you want have much time to use it unless you skip class. My opinion is go cheap college is expensive enough.

I agree with crip, I was in the same situation at college. I waited till I got my certifications before building my expensive rig. In my case it helped me because I was studying computers in school and alot of stuff that I've learned helped my build. Besides that, your specs are awesome and wish you the best in school.

As far as the high-end multimedia items go, I want them because I'm planning on using my computer to replace a TV and stereo. Money isn't too big an issue because I'm getting over 75% of my college expenses paid for with scholarships, so my parents are willing to help me out with purchasing this.

Far as the case goes, I recommend the Lian Li. CPU seems fine, but i'd go for a Maxtor or Seagate instead of the WD.

AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! You ripped me off! How dare you copy the EXACT configuration as my college computer! j/k 🙂

Jonny I wonder what major you are in! I myself major in computer art so I need the power to render 3D things and clips 🙂

Don't the AIW's come with TV tuner's? Anyways get the best TV you can get, go for a radeon 9800 and a Wintv-D HDTV receiver, that would kick ass. BTW I don't think you should get a fancy case, because of theft and all.
