The good ol' Dell wired keyboards & mice work just fine for these slackass morons who couldn't find a power button to save their lives. But nooooooooo, the depts have to buy a bunch of them Logitech wireless keyboards & mice. Did I mention they cut the heat in all the buildings on campus due to a $5M budget shortfall? Oh, but let's buy them wireless keyboards & mice so I can trek to another building to push the fvcking connect button to shut these morons up. I also hope they enjoy their $2000 Dell laptops w/a gig of RAM, DVDRWs, and spare batteries that will only come out of the nifty Dell case to play Solitare. Gotta love how people spend my tax dollars

WHen I was on active duty the base commander would use his slush fund to buy a bunch of kegs every friday to build moral. I would personally like to thank you for paying your taxes in a timely manner.

Report that information up to whoever is in charge of budgeting. I'm sure they'd like to know how company funds are being wasted.

heh glad I work for ChevronTexaco now.... tech budget is freaking incredible as is the budget for comforts for the workers...

best Desktop job ive ever had working here.
brand new dual opteron workstations 2 gig of ram DVDRW with dual 19-23in flats on custom adjustable arms depending on what department.
powered workstations that go up and down all the way to standing height so you can work standing up (great for desktop techs too no more slamming head into desk when moving PCs around and troubleshooting.

never have I worked for a company that spends this much on thier tech budget. guess its good to be in Oil these days with the prices being so far up..

He mentioned 'campus.' That implies a college.
The funny thing about higher education is that they rarely 'purchase' IT products. Usually they are given in a grant, or with funds with a strings-attached clause saying what they can and can't be spent on.

How if you had $250,000 for laptops, and you only spent $100,000 by the end of the year, well damn, you must only need $100,000 next year. So the laptops were probably purchased at the end of the year for this reason 🙂

Now building heat...that's not as glamorous, probably not too many wealthy alumni giving the school money for heating bills. So that comes out of the much more limited general fund.

Just one more fvcking thing to fvcking troubleshoot. As if the daily calls of:

Them: Umm my computer won't turn on...
Helpdesk: Is the green power light on?
Them: Yea but then it turns orange.
Helpdesk: Can you look under your desk and turn on the power on the computer THEN try to turn on the monitor...?
Them: What?
Helpdesk: You need to turn on the computer. You are just turning on the monitor.
Them: Umm...
Helpdesk: ...
Them: Oh wait I got it... but my keyboard and mouse don't work now...

🙁

Bingo. I understand why they have to use the budget so its not entirely their fault, still pisses me off as a taxpayer and as a student tho. This is what my taxes AND tuition are going towards

Update: Yep, she didn't charge the mouse overnight so the battery died.

Probably not.....IT comes from grants, from companies who want a plaque, a tax writeoof, and 'goodwill'
