If anyone can explain this to me it would be appriciated. To my understanding the P3's FBS is only 100mhz (or is it 133mhz max - i might be wrong on the hundred). Anyways if the speed is 133 then i undertand that the 33 extra mhz would be useful. BTW whats the diff. and how does it affect overclocking? Would it be better to have PC 133 for sqeezing more juice out of the processor?

ToxicRage, if you are looking for better/more overclocking potential on your system, you should have a processor(CB0 type) that runs at standard 100mhz bus with the motherboard that supports 133mhz and up, that is the best setup to start.. Im quite sure about it. For example, get a processor 600E (6x 100mhz) and the motherboard that are easily capable of handling at 133mhzFSB or well beyond. I belive your processor katmai runs at 5.5x 100mhz FSB.

The difference betw. 100mhz and 133mhz is that as a common sense we all know that 33mhz more is better.. yes, that is totally true. Higher the FSB the faster overall system components will run. For example, a 600mhz sytem with its FSB running at 133mhz(600B or 600EB) runs faster than other 600mhz system with its FSB running at 100mhz(600E or 600). I believe the 600EB can even outperform 650E if you are not going to overclock them. A processor with EB or B does not have as much overclocking potential as the ones with E.

Some PIIIs run 100FSB (eg 600, 650, 700, 750), some run 133FSB (533, 600EB, 667, 733).

Yes, it is better to have a FSB of 133 as everything will run a lot better, although if you want to overclock, it's better to get a 100 FSB CPU.

But with RAM, always buy PC133, there is no point in purchasing PC100.

Thx guys but the pc 100 is moew expensive and i dont know if it worth the extra cash for the extra 33mhz. i am planning to overclock to 650...dont know it i wanna go higher although 700 is tempting, but i need a new PS to stick more fans into the system. Well, i will have to see what hapenes when i do overclock it on the pc 100.

OHHH Yeah, Sorry guys for the posting in a wrong forum :p

PS: will i need to replace the existing fan on my processor? or can i just leave the factory crap and reach my 650?

Bull dark...lots of people get over the 600mhz and even anandtech pushed it to 750! It was unstable but according to them over 650 is achievable with a stable performance. Now my question is if i can acheve that with pc100 (theory is that the FSB is 100mhz that mathces the rams speed). SHK i dont know what a CBO type is but my mobo can support the 133 ram (im 80% positive). So i think i will change the clock speed first to 6 and then 6.5 x 100. the reason i wanna do that first is that i heard that maxtor hd dont like change in FSB... dont ask me why, they just said that they dont work properly. Anyhow if the clock spped will be ok, then i'll leave it, if not ill play with FSB.
