please explain ram for amd vs intel

was reading a review of asus m5a99x (i think thats right, the 990x mobo) and it mentioned ram for intel and ram for amd, can someone please explain the differences between the 2? thanks

The difference is that with "sandy bridge" intel processors, they only need DDR3 at 1333 (1.5 volt) and you overclock them by increasing the CPU's multiplier not the CPU or RAM clock speed.

With AMD, you might benefit from RAM that can run faster than 1333.

It's all DDR 3 RAM though, the same chips will work with both of them.

Also if I remember right XMP profiles are supported by Intel motherboards but not by AMD. AMD has their own thing (again if I remember right). So sometimes you'll find two versions of the same RAM with the difference being that.

I don't think AMD has their own thing, unless my DDR3-1600 Ripjaws can present Intel XMP AND AMD XMP profiles.
